Unlike any other platform, WordPress allows you to create the website or blog of your dreams. If you’re a small business owner, this is a good option:
- Start a business on the internet.
- Make your company’s name known.
- Blogging is a great way to share in-depth information.
Here are step-by-step instructions on how to get up and running with this powerful application.
How to download and install WordPress
Installing WordPress is the first step in learning how to use the platform. When it comes to getting WordPress up and running, there are two main routes to take.
The five-minute Method
From the beginning, you will be able to tailor your website to your exact specifications thanks to this installation option. To be honest, if you have no prior experience with WordPress, this method will take much longer than five minutes to learn, download, and install.
The one-click approach
It’s easy to use a web host to do this, but you’ll have to customize it afterward. Good news! You have plenty of time to learn WordPress as you get started, so you can focus on creating your blog or website to its full potential.
A large part of SeiMaxim’s success can be attributed to the company’s ability to accommodate a wide range of customers, from small businesses just starting out to more experienced bloggers. There is no longer any need for the aforementioned time-consuming and complicated installation process.
Learn your way around
The process of logging in to your WordPress administration page is fairly straightforward. Once you have installed WordPress, you will be given a link to log in. When prompted for a username and password, simply click the link and enter the information you entered during the installation.
Alternatively, you can enter /wp-admin, followed by the domain name of your new site, into the address bar. This means that your login page will be located at wp-admin.scribes.com if your domain name is scribes.com. Log in using your username and password.
You will be taken to your Dashboard when you log in to your admin page. All the magic happens here. Your dashboard has all the tools you could possibly need, regardless of whether you want to build an e-commerce website or the most beautiful travel blog.
Check out the pre-installed theme in WordPress before you begin customizing your website or blog. Your website’s look and functionality will be determined by the theme you choose. Depending on your needs, you might find that the built-in WordPress theme meets most of them.
Click Appearance > Customize in the left toolbar to see the default theme. You should spend some time looking at the layout, which includes the header, menu, content area, and footer. All of this can be customized to fit your business’s personality, tone, and needs.
Check out the other free themes that come with WordPress if this one doesn’t meet your expectations. To see what else is available, go to Appearance > Themes. Not all WordPress themes are compatible with SeiMaxim’s website product, so make sure to check before purchasing.
Using the left-hand menu, we can now see how to navigate the WordPress builder.
Posts
New blog posts will be added here (use Pages for static content). It will open the form above once you click Posts > Add New. Only the title, the main content of your post, and any images or videos you want to include can be added.
The formatting options are similar to those found in Microsoft Word and are simple to use. Additionally, you can include keywords in the tags, the author’s name, and a brief description of your post in the Google search results.
To publish your finished post, click Publish or Schedule for a future date and time. At this point, the post will be available to everyone to read on the internet.
Your readers will be able to more easily locate the content they’re looking for thanks to the use of categories. These categories must be created by you according to your requirements. For a travel blog, for example, you could organize posts by country or type of vacation (budget-friendly, cultural, eco-tourism, etc).
Media
You’ll find all of your photos, MP3s, audio files, and other media here. Uploading a photo or video automatically adds the file to your Media Library for safekeeping. Use Add Media below the title field to later retrieve and embed it in blog posts.
Pro tip: rename your image or video each time you embed it so that the keywords you’ve selected for that post appear in the name. Click here to learn more about keywords.
Pages
Use pages for information that isn’t going to be updated frequently. Pages such as these are included:
- About Us.
- Contact Us.
- Our Services.
These are individual web pages containing details about your business, such as its mission and primary areas of knowledge. They are the face of your company, so everything you say about them should be carefully considered.
Comments
This is an optional feature that you can enable if you want to allow comments from your readers or customers on your posts. Filters can be used to moderate the language and content of comments, giving you more control. As a precaution against spam, you can review and approve comments before they are published.
Appearance
Change the design of your website here. Your website or blog will look and function as a result of the theme you choose. Choose from a variety of free themes here, or install and activate new WordPress themes from the internet. Installing a theme is as simple as following the instructions that come with it.
Plugins
If the WordPress theme you’ve chosen doesn’t include certain features, you can add them with plug-ins. There are literally tens of thousands of options to choose from when shopping on the internet. Some examples of plug-ins include:
- To see who’s reading your posts or pages, you need analytics.
- To increase the number of visitors to your blog or website through search engine optimization (SEO).
- Management of your social media accounts in order to link your WordPress site to them.
- A way to accept payments from your website or blog’s customers.
Users
You may be the only user of WordPress if you are using it for a personal blog. You can make changes to your personal information by going to the Your Profile page. In the case of a media blog or a WordPress login page for multiple users, you will need to use this feature to add and manage users. WordPress allows you to give different users different levels of access and control.
Tools
Use the Tools feature if you need to import or export data from your computer or other applications. It will also allow you to upgrade to a newer version of WordPress. For security reasons, you should do this as soon as a new update is released. The sky’s the limit when it comes to what you can do.
Choosing a Theme
Your blog or website’s appearance and functionality will be influenced by the theme you choose. There are literally thousands of themes to choose from, all created by WordPress developers and users.
Go to Appearance > Theme in the left toolbar if you want to change your theme. Additional themes can be found here, or you can upload your own using the Add New button.
Testing out the newest themes
For a fast and easy way to change your site’s look, simply select one of the themes and activate it by clicking the Activate button under it. Previously published blog posts will carry over to the new design.
What if you don’t like it? Return to Appearance > Theme and click the Activate button under the previous theme to restore the design to what you had. Click the name of your website in the toolbar to bring it back into focus.
Make your website or blog look and feel better once you’ve figured out how WordPress works. Make an effort to make it more interesting to read and easier to use. Make use of plug-ins to improve your website’s functionality and increase traffic. It takes time and effort to keep your website up-to-date and functional. Make sure your website or blog is up to date with the latest WordPress versions and features.
Summary
WordPress is a great platform for anyone, whether you’re a small business owner or a want tobe lifestyle blogger.
Advanced features may appear intimidating at first, but they’re actually quite simple to learn thanks to a plethora of online resources. Putting in the time and effort now will pay off with a unique blog or website.
